NUS High School offers a 6-year NUS High School Diploma that is recognized by both local and foreign universities. Students are not required to sit for public examinations except for their mother tongue languages.
Students are admitted after a rigorous selection process and they comprised the top 10% of the primary school students. NUS High School received 2000 applicants from both local and international schools but can only take in 170 students in Year 1 and an additional 70 students in Year 3 annually. The school fees cost S$ 1000 monthly and 700 hostel fees for the Year 5 students.
A modular system is used and students, who are good in say Math can fast track to NUS undergraduate modules. The National University of Singapore is only a 7-minute walk away. Students are required to complete a Research Project in order to graduate. 56 % of their teachers have either a Masters degree or a PhD. The school has the state- of- the- art facilities with only two students sharing a fume hood in the chemistry laboratory. Other laboratories include that of creativity and innovations, and clean energy that utilizes the solar panels.
